The short stopover

Two nights in another world.

An Icelandair stopover turned two short nights into a reason to come back for an entire trip.

Iceland was meant to be a two-night stopover. It turned into one of the places we most wanted to return to.

An unexpected addition.

Icelandair’s stopover option let us add Iceland on the way from Vancouver to Brussels without additional airfare for the stopover itself. The morning light on the drive into Reykjavík already made the decision feel right.

We saw Gullfoss, the erupting geyser, Kerið Crater and landscapes that seemed to change every hour. There was something extraordinary around almost every corner.

Longer, next time.

The Blue Lagoon looked almost unreal against the volcanic rock, even if it was the least peaceful part of our time there. Iceland was also expensive, but the experience delivered far more than a list of sights could suggest.

Next time, I would explore more of the country instead of trying to fit so much into a stopover.
