An unexpected favourite

The city that stayed with us.

Sometimes a place becomes a favourite without a single headline attraction explaining why.

Dream Lux Travels / Ghent, Belgium

Ghent remains one of my favourite cities we have visited, and not because it was the most obvious stop on the itinerary.

A city that feels good to be in.

I remember Ghent for its canals, architecture, walkable streets and the atmosphere after dark. It offered the kind of travel day where wandering without a strict plan was its own reward.

Some places are easy to appreciate in a photograph. Others make much more sense once you are there. Ghent was firmly in the second category.

What makes a favourite?

It is not always a landmark, an exceptional hotel or an itinerary full of activities. Sometimes it is the simple feeling that you would happily spend another day walking the same streets.

For me, Ghent is one of those places.
